A Concert of Nordic Tones

2014.10.01 19:00 - 2014-10-01 21:00 Art Museum Riga Bourse
A Concert of Nordic Tones "DaNoIS – mutual roots, common Nordic music culture" In 2014, Norway celebrates the 200th anniversary of the Norwegian Constitution and Iceland celebrates its 70th anniversary as an independent state. In 1814 Norway left the union the Danish Empire with Denmark, Iceland, Greenland, the Faroe Islands and. 130 years after the Norwegian Constitution was written - in 1944 - Iceland gained its independence as a sovereign state. The cultural roots in the Nordic region are mutual and the music culture is rich and still common between the countries.

The Concert DaNoIs presents Danish, Norwegian and Icelandic music by famous, well known, and less known composers; e.g. Grieg, Gade, Kuhlau, Beck, Heinze, Isolfsson. The Icelandic composer Tryggvi M. Baldvinsson has written the work “Icebreaker” for DaNoIs.

The three musicians in Trio DaNoIs are all graduates from the Grieg Academy in  Bergen: Hornist Pernille Kaarslev, from Denmark, pianist Jónina Erna Arnardottir is Icelandic, and pianist Morten Fagerli is Norwegian. They all have long merits in giving concerts with Nordic music. Pernille and Morten have since given more than 100 concerts together and Jónína and Morten in 2012 gave  the concert Nordic Tones at the IsNord Festval in Iceland.
