10th Saeima holds inaugural plenary today

RIGA, Nov 2 (LETA) - Today at 10 a.m - the first plenary meeting for the newly-elected Saeima will be held.
Registration for the new MPs will be open in the foyer as of 9 a.m. (Jekaba St. 11).
The plenary will be opened by 9th Saeima Speaker Gundars Daudze, and he will continue to chair the meeting until the new speaker is elected. Other members of the Presidium will also be voted in.
An address will be delivered by President Valdis Zatlers.
During the session, all deputies will recite the oath of office, and sign the oath afterwards: “I, upon assuming the duties of a Member of the Saeima, before the people of Latvia, do swear (solemnly promise) to be loyal to Latvia, to strengthen its sovereignty and the Latvian language as the only official language, to defend Latvia as an independent and democratic state and to fulfil my duties honestly and conscientiously. I undertake to observe the Constitution and laws of Latvia.”
